What
is it?
The Fixed Version of the SkyConnect Unit is an Iridium
voice and data terminal that allows standard telephones
and cordless phones to be used to make Iridium calls.
Users of this terminal are protected from the elements,
since the main system is indoors and only the external
antenna is exposed. A computer may be attached to
the SkyConnect for e-mail and Internet access.
The
Fixed Version consists of the the Iridium SkyConnect
Basic Unit (IRID-SKY-AC) internal transceiver box
with a 110-220VDC power supply and high gain antenna
(IRID-SKY-ANT). The unit mounts easily in any indoor
location and includes an RJ-11 Jack (for telephone
handset), 9-pin serial port (for data), two RJ-45
connections (for optional Iridium handset) and optional
external sim card reader.
Why do you need it?
Sky Connect Fixed allows personnel within a building
or other protected structure to make Iridium calls
using ordinary corded or cordless telephones. These
phones can be used to receive or originate calls using
the “Iridium Dial Tone” provided by Sky
Connect Fixed. There is no need to be outside in the
weather in order to make an Iridium call. Only the
sealed Iridium antenna is exposed to the elements.
A PBX can access the Iridium network via Sky Connect
Fixed.
